Americas Ping Test

Ping from New York, Vancouver and Sao Paulo to cover North and South America together.

Ping data for this region comes from public vantage points operated by check-host.net.

This Americas ping test covers both North and South America from three locations: New York in the United States, Vancouver in Canada and Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Use it when your audience spans the whole hemisphere and you want to know whether a single deployment in the United States serves Canada and Brazil acceptably, or whether you need a second region closer to South America.

What Is an Americas Ping Test?

An Americas ping test measures round-trip latency to one target from several locations across the American continents at the same time.

The distances involved are large. A packet from Sao Paulo to New York easily travels 7,000 km each way, and latency on that route is usually 100-130 ms. Testing from Vancouver and New York at the same time shows how the north-south split affects your users.

What You Need to Run the Test

A valid target: an IPv4 address or a domain name. Each vantage point resolves the domain itself.

An ICMP-reachable host. A server that drops ICMP requests will show as unreachable even when it is online.

A few seconds of patience: the quick test sends four packets from each of the three locations.

How to Run an Americas Ping Test

Enter the IP address or hostname you want to test from the Americas.

Press Start Ping. New York, Vancouver and Sao Paulo all ping the target in parallel.

Compare the three rows. The difference between New York and Sao Paulo is the clearest sign of whether a single US region is enough.

How to Use Your Americas Ping Results

Decide whether you need a South American presence: if Sao Paulo shows 110 ms against 20 ms from New York, a Brazilian audience will feel the difference.

Verify your CDN edge in South America: check whether a point of presence near Brazil actually answers quickly.

Compare Canadian latency: Vancouver and eastern Canada are often on different paths to US datacenters.

Benchmark cross-border e-commerce, streaming or VoIP between the two continents.

When an Americas Ping Test Does Not Help

ICMP ping does not measure application performance. It cannot tell you why a checkout page is slow for Brazilian users, or measure DNS resolution time. Hosts that block ICMP look unreachable here even though they are fine. The result also depends on the transit network of each vantage point, which may differ from the local ISP your users connect through.

Americas Ping Test vs Global Ping Test

The Americas ping test gives you three hemisphere-wide reference points, which is ideal for deciding on a North or South American deployment. The global ping test adds European and Australian nodes and visualises everything on a world map. Use the regional page for deployment planning within the Americas and the global page for intercontinental comparisons.

Other Regional Ping Tests

  • Europe Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from 6 servers across the Netherlands, France, Germany and England.
  • US Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from 4 servers in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and New York.
  • Asia Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from 6 Asian locations: Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Middle East Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from 4 Middle East nodes in Israel and Iran.
  • Turkey Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from 2 Istanbul servers on the bridge between Europe and Asia.
  • Australia Ping Test — Ping any IP or domain from our Sydney server to measure latency from Oceania.

Testing a host from several continents at once? The global ping test pings your target from all of our nodes and draws every result on a world map. For a single known host, the Quick Ping pages are faster.
