Jitter Test

Measure latency variation (jitter) to assess connection stability for gaming, calls and streaming

How the Jitter Test Works

Our jitter test measures the variation in latency between consecutive ping packets sent from 7 global server locations. Unlike a simple ping test that only shows average latency, the jitter test reveals how consistent your connection is โ€” a critical metric for gaming, VoIP, and video streaming.

Jitter is calculated as the mean absolute difference between consecutive round-trip times (RTT). Low jitter means your latency is stable and predictable, while high jitter causes lag spikes, rubber-banding in games, and audio stuttering in calls. The test also reports packet loss and average latency alongside jitter for a complete network quality picture.

For competitive online gaming, jitter under 3 milliseconds is ideal. For video conferencing and VoIP, keeping jitter below 5 milliseconds ensures smooth audio and video. Run the jitter test alongside our packet loss test and ping stability test for a full network diagnostics check.
